Dear Mrs. Boutilier:

For my Capstone, I would like to fundraise money to donate to ABC Women’s Center in Middletown, CT. This is a nonprofit organization that offers services to pregnant women to help them through their pregnancy. These services vary from educational classes, one-on-one counseling, parenting aid, along with pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. All services given by this organization are free of charge. Along with fundraising money, I plan on interning at the center, 1-2 times a week, depending on my academic workload. This will begin when volleyball season ends. When I am interning at the center, I can be possibly playing with the toddlers that come in, along with helping with paperwork, cleaning up when needed, or organizing donations that come into the center. I plan to raise the money needed for the desktop computers through bottle and can drives in my local neighborhood, along with doing an extension of a fundraiser that their center already does, called Bottles for Life. This is a fundraiser where baby bottles are given out and people are told to fill them with cash or spare change. I have asked for permission to do this with the teachers in our school, placing the baby bottles in the teacher lounges. My largest stretch for this project will be raising the $1000 or more, as I have never had to raise this much money before, although I am determined to do it. I see the need ABC has for constant donations and would love to provide for them in any way I can. I want to raise money for this center because I feel very strongly for life and believe that each person on this earth has a purpose. This center stands for being alongside women when making a pregnancy decision to keep a child or not. I firmly believe that every child deserves to live and I look forward to working with ABC Women’s Center.

To go along with my Capstone project, I will be researching the psychological effects abortion has on a woman. Specifically, I will be focusing on how abortion leaves a lasting effect on a woman’s body holistically. Abortion is a medical procedure and needs to be treated as such so there will be physical effects following the abortion, along with possible emotional fears, thoughts, and side effects. This research is directly related to my capstone project because ABC Women’s Center runs several post-abortion classes for women that may possibly need help through the counseling. This research relates to all of the work my mentor, Mrs. Hurtado, and her team, deal with on a daily basis as they fight for human rights for all children, born and still in the womb to show women the importance of a child’s life from the moment of conception.

I have chosen Molly Hurtado as my mentor. She is the executive director of ABC Women’s Center, with a lot of information to give. I have known Mrs. Hurtado for several years as she is also my youth pastor’s wife. I have seen her very passionate about her job and am eager to work alongside her. Mrs. Hurtado has worked with the Women of Faith conference organization in her past as well. She continually fights for the rights of the unborn children in our political community as well which includes going to the capital building regularly, and speaking to congress men and women about her beliefs. She has an incredibly large heart for others, including the unborn child, and I believe she can guide me throughout my capstone project.

Sincerely,

Sarah Gangl
